You Need this Newly Launched Note-Taking App

By Madison White on March 21, 2019

A newly launched app called Scribe may change your college experience! According to a recent press release, Scribe was recently launched in March 2019 by a recent Berkeley graduate. The Scribe app is described as an audio-recording, communication, and transcription application that can be used for a variety of purposes in academic and professional settings, and beyond. Parker Bohls, a Partner at Scribe, says that “[Scribe’s] goal is to empower students and business professionals to effectively retain information without missing the smallest detail.”

With millions of people engaging in meetings and lectures across the country, Scribe seeks to make the note-taking aspect much easier. With traditional note-taking, it is easy to get behind while writing or lose notes by storing them in multiple different places. The app appears to solve this issue by allowing users to store all their notes, recordings, and transcriptions in one place. The app also features different files which allow users to organize their notes and search them easily.

Scribe’s most interesting feature is the recording to transcription technology. It allows users to record something and then request a transcription of the recording at the press of a button. This feature will be great for people who are not fast enough to write or type while someone else is talking. The recording feature also allows people to rewind, fast-forward, and flag certain areas that they want to return to in the future.

Besides the recording features, the app also allows its users to type notes or take pictures. This could be helpful for people who want a visual snapshot of a presentation or want to keep track of something that the speaker didn’t say.

The app also boasts ample storage capacity for its users and is powered by AWS (Amazon Web Services) which allows secure storage in a cloud-based platform. Currently, the app is available on iOS mobile devices.

As a student, Scribe may be especially helpful during lectures. Instead of struggling to note down or remember everything the instructor says, you could use the app to record things and potentially transcribe and edit them.

It is important to note that this app is for mobile devices and that some professors may assume that you are texting or messing with your phone if you choose to use Scribe during class. It would be a good idea to talk to your professors about what you are using your phone for so that they know you are not simply being distracted by your phone.

For privacy reasons, some people may not want to be recorded, so if you will be recording, it may be wise to ask their permission first. Of course, if someone does not want to be recorded, you can still utilize the app by typing out notes in the app.

Scribe appears to be a great step forward in note-taking interface that may help many people in and out of school. Its features attempt to solve the many difficulties with note-taking like missing sections and misplacing them.
